A very beautiful series of aluminum Drachma tokens from the sulfur mines of Milos.
The sulfur mines of Milos were at their peak during the interwar period in the 1930s. This is still evidenced today by the sulfur transport facilities, the mining galleries, the dilapidated offices, the tools and various objects of unexplored use. Images that take you to another era. During the period 1890-1905 the sulfur mines were operated by the Public and Municipal Works Company.
However, in 1905 their operation stopped due to the production of cheap sulfur in America. Then for a few years they operated sporadically, while in the 1930s as we said, there was full operation. It was during this period that the facilities that survive to this day in Milos were created. The sulfur mine in Paliorema stopped its operation in the 1960s
